Association introduces labelling system on energy-environmental performance of industry technologies at Simac Tanning Tech
Growing consumer awareness of environmental issues and the purchase of guaranteed products is directing the efforts of the manufacturing industry toward production models that are energy efficient, less polluting, and respect ethical and safety standards.
Assomac, the National Association of Manufacturers of Footwear, Leather Goods and Tannery Technologies, with the official presentation of the “Supplier of Sustainable Technologies” project , officially announced the “Green Plate” at Simac Tanning Tech.
The Green Plaque is a voluntary pathway of companies in the sector useful to inform the end customer about the efficiency and environmental impact reduction parameters of the technologies produced. The Green Plaque is an easily understandable tool intended to express the efficiency and environmental impact of the machine under consideration through the internationally recognized Carbon Footprint (CFP), which is processed using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) calculation methodologies.
“Sustainable products, and consequently their production and use, have become a crucial paradigm for international competitiveness – says Gabriella Marchioni Bocca, president of Assomac. From a supply chain perspective, machines and technologies intend to contribute substantially in qualifying the manufacturing production process by making it efficient and sustainable. Hides, footwear and leather goods will be the result of shared objectives oriented toward increasingly eco-friendly and virtuous production, going to increase the value of Made in Italy, which is already recognized worldwide for its quality, innovation and creativity.”
The initiative goes to consolidate a path that companies individually have been on for some time, with the introduction of increasingly innovative, high-performance, safe and environmentally friendly technologies and processes. Realizing that transparency of technical information is an indispensable prerequisite, the Association wanted to make this commitment visible and become the promoter of a concrete tool such as the Green Plaque.
Awareness of the skills and technological quality achieved thus becomes an element of strength for the entire industry. Producing efficiently, reducing waste and saving energy and material resources, is not only an environmental necessity but also a socio-economic commitment for future generations.
“Traceability, sustainability, transparency and environmental compatibility are now fundamental prerogatives that we cannot ignore,” concludes Gabriella Marchioni Bocca. It is our task to find the innovative solutions to link the production process to environmental sustainability, which is not only an element of excellence but also of competitiveness: in an international market that is increasingly demanding and attentive to such issues.”
